ahh...holidays...

A Better Tomorrow

Putting on a warm and fuzzy hat,

slipping on a large coat,

and pulling some gloves on

you walk out the door of your work place.

The cold dry air of December bites at your face

as you make your way to the car,

and you remember why you hate winter.

Six straight hours of working

has put you in an irritable mood

and the homework waiting for you at home

doesn’t exactly help.

Realizing that you are alone again tonight

means another microwave dinner

and nobody to talk to.

Putting your hand in a coat pocket

you pull out your keys and unlock the door,

swing it open,

then stop.

Catching a light in the corner of your eye,

you turn towards the light

and look around.

There was a beautiful public park there

surrounded by small stores.

In the middle of the park stood a large pine tree,

covered with all sorts of decorations and lights,

from multiple colored ornaments

to the many glowing lights.

At the very top of the tree

a single white star stood,

shedding its light to any passerby.

People walked about the park

with happy smiles,

cheerful attitudes,

and a warm sense of togetherness.

Parents walked about with their children

who were strung up in anticipation for the holidays,

while young couples walked about

catching the liveliness in the air

and shopping around the stores on the streets.

Letting out a sigh

your breathe drifts away as a cloud,

and you realize it’s snowing.

You smile to yourself,

as the warmth of the light catches up to you,

you look up into the quiet, darkening sky

and you say to yourself,

Maybe it won’t be so bad after all.
