ahh...holidays...

A Better Tomorrow

Putting on a warm and fuzzy hat,

slipping on a large coat,

and pulling some gloves on

you walk out the door of your work place.

The cold dry air of December bites at your face

as you make your way to the car,

and you remember why you hate winter.

Six straight hours of working

has put you in an irritable mood

and the homework waiting for you at home

doesn’t exactly help.

Realizing that you are alone again tonight

means another microwave dinner

and nobody to talk to.

Putting your hand in a coat pocket

you pull out your keys and unlock the door,

swing it open,

then stop.

Catching a light in the corner of your eye,

you turn towards the light

and look around.

There was a beautiful public park there

surrounded by small stores.

In the middle of the park stood a large pine tree,

covered with all sorts of decorations and lights,

from multiple colored ornaments

to the many glowing lights.

At the very top of the tree

a single white star stood,

shedding its light to any passerby.

People walked about the park

with happy smiles,

cheerful attitudes,

and a warm sense of togetherness.

Parents walked about with their children

who were strung up in anticipation for the holidays,

while young couples walked about

catching the liveliness in the air

and shopping around the stores on the streets.

Letting out a sigh

your breathe drifts away as a cloud,

and you realize it’s snowing.

You smile to yourself,

as the warmth of the light catches up to you,

you look up into the quiet, darkening sky

and you say to yourself,

Maybe it won’t be so bad after all.

more poetry

Escape

Family is a great thing to have,

to have a home to return to

after a long day,

to have peace and quiet

and recharge for the next day.

Thoughts like these are what get me into trouble,

like fantasies bleeding into reality,

the cold truth starts to show through.

A once warm house

has grown cold with the winter.

Yelling for the littlest of things,

scolding without a cause,

raising voices just to get someone to listen,

ignoring the things that others say

and not hearing my cry for help.

Parents are supposed to be there for their kids,

they are supposed to understand them,

listen to them,

love them,

and set them on the right path,

yet,

how can you listen to me

while you yell like that?

How can you understand me

if I never get the chance to talk?

How can you hear me call for help

if all you do is argue?

I need a way out,

I need someone to listen to what I have to say,

I need to be loved,

I need to be heard,

I need to...

escape…

What I Love the Most

Through the Years and Far Away

The places you go

and the things you see

aren’t always remembered.

Losing track of time,

forgetting the names of your past,

we move on in life.

Hearing an old favorite,

you remember things long forgotten.

You remember jamming out to the song

with your friends in the car,

those pointless conversations

and all the memories shared.

Digging deeper and deeper,

trying to remember,

you dig up old writings from high school days,

a time long gone.

Story after story,

poem after poem,

you read on.

A young, youthful voice is heard throughout,

having a life of its own,

dancing its way through emotion after emotion,

and speaking to whomever would listen.

A Calling from a time long past.

From the wolves to the angels,

mountains and forests,

family to family,

passion to tragedy,

a voice calls out from another time.

Smiling at what was uncovered,

you remember all the feelings and emotions

of events long over.

From the first time you drove alone

to the time your parents busted you for all the friends in the car.

From the first date

to the first time you shared a kiss with your love.

From walking around the pond by your house

to sitting by a quiet lake in the mountains,

you laugh and you cry.

* * *

Through the ups and downs of life

I wait, I watch, and I live.

The memories we keep invoke emotions

that, sometimes, can only be understood by us.

The time we spend with others is never meaningless

and can never be taken away.

Loving,

hating,

laughing,

and crying

are ultimately part of the never-ending,

never-fading circle of life.

Through all the chaos,

all the music,

through all the tears

and the smiles,

we live.

Through the years and far away,

this is where I write,

this is where I breathe,

and this is where I live

for another time.

What i Needed to Say

To My Family

From random pokes,

to random thoughts,

jumpy reactions and

deep thoughts,

we have come closer.

From silly ideas,

to the real thinkers,

missing attendance

to skipping across the room for a sticker

that meant more than any could know.

From rabies,

to 363 posts

and more fun stories,

to music and James

and those lyrics that leave a lasting impression.

So much depends,

ain’t that a cliché?

But when you actually stop for a moment,

wait for all the sounds to fall away

and disappear into the depths of your mind,

think for a second.

The truth isn’t buried too deep.

So much actually does depend

on those chance encounters,

random events that you least expect,

the people you meet,

and places you go.

How much have we grown since the first day?

How many more names have you learned?

How many people have you come to know?

How many times have you improved your writing?

How much will you take from this class?

We have grown together,

enough to make it noticeable.

We live our own lives,

yet,

how much have we affected another?

Maybe some will forget by month’s end,

and not look back,

but maybe more will remember

all the moments,

all the laughs,

and all the stories shared.

They will look back with a smile,

with sadness or a happy heart,

at the family left behind.

my poem

The Fading Light

People tell me that it is an honor to work for God,

that to do so brings you into His light,

and what a beautiful thing it is!

My mother has become a servant of God,

and we celebrate the divine honor blessed on her.

Her mother, her sister, her husband and her two sons,

all with her on this wonderful day,

one filled with games,

happy conversations,

and the love of a close family.

With the day finally ending,

my grandmother and aunt leaving for home,

we are retiring for the night.

Waking up the next morning,

looking outside my window,

I see the beautiful sunlight smiling down on the world.

I see the trees green with leaves shining with light.

I see the birds flying around and singing happily.

It put a smile on my face

and went to the kitchen to join my family for breakfast.

But there was something different going on.

Something was wrong with this situation,

my mother was gone,

my dad wasn’t reading the paper,

and a word being said.

I looked to my father for answers,

but as my eyes looked upon his features

a grim silence followed that lingered,

and my thoughts drifted from place to place,

trying to find an answer.

A daughter,

a sister,

and my aunt

leave the world behind…

* * *

Its hard to describe the emotions that one feels

at the loss of a close family member.

Pain?

that isn’t even close.

Sadness?

that word isn’t strong enough.

Sorrow?

I can’t even begin to explain how deep the scars are.

People tell me it is an honor to be a pallbearer,

to be able to carry a close loved one to their final resting place.

What kind of sick joke is this?

Is it supposed to be an honor to suffer?

I can’t begin to describe the pain that one experiences in this situation.

So many emotions…

So many memories…

People tell me God is all-powerful and forgiving,

that it is an honor to work for Him.

But I can’t help but wonder

why a god that is so forgiving and loving

would take my aunt away

and leave us without answers?

It leaves me to wonder about the truths of life.

Is there a heaven waiting for me on the other side?

Or is life just simply made of life and death?

As the sun paints the sky brilliant shades of red and orange,

the blue becoming heavier and heavier,

the wind in the trees dies down,

and the life of the day goes to sleep.

This is where I find myself,

gazing at the star-filled sky,

wondering,

waiting,

watching,

and the same question enters my mind:

Why?

Longer Short Story =D

Angels Fall First

“Needed elsewhere
To remind us of the shortness of our time
Tears laid for them
Tears of love tears of fear
Bury my dreams dig up my sorrows
Oh Lord why
The angels fall first.”

The ballad sounded through Malik’s mind again. He couldn’t figure out what its purpose was and this was beginning to eat away at his thoughts. The sad melody was recited by the seer in the elven city on the day he left, yet it was still haunting his conscience. Not wanting to distract his thinking from the journey set upon him, he pulled the reins and slowed the horse to look around. The ends of the black trench coat he was wearing flapped around his legs in the wind blowing through the valley. Malik moved a hand to push a hair out of his face and looked around. The pony tail on the back of his head moved around in the breeze as he slowly scanned the area with a pair of brilliant dark blue eyes. Spotting no danger, he kicked his black leather boots into the side of the horse, and they were off again. Rolling the sleeves of his coat up past the elbows as they go, it revealed the black leather bracers underneath. This better be worth it in the end, he thought to himself as he rode through the forests. If the rumors aren’t true, then this will be a big waste of my time.

It had been a couple months since he had made his way back through the northern mountains of Norvetta from the lost city of the elves. Staying with them for almost a year, living with them, learning from them, and in return giving them his tragic tale: he had lost all of his friends and family and his home when the rebels struck his remote village of Nerana. The elves took him in and treated Malik as one of their own. But as the wounds healed, he was forever scarred with the thought of losing all he loved. Deciding to set out for the ruins of his home to see if the wounds were truly permanent, he traveled almost two weeks to get out of the mountains and then make his way into the valley where the village resided.

Upon arriving, he found a number of buildings erected over the ashes of the town. It turned out that these buildings housed a small band of rebels. His heart, still broken from memories of his loved ones gone forever, thirsted for revenge. Drawing his sword from its sheath beside him, Malik blindly charged into the camp striking down a number of people before the rebels finally were able to surround him. They captured him and threw him and threw him in a holding cell within one of the buildings. He spent many days there, all the while being questioned for his actions, his purpose, and his past. They received nothing from him but glares of hatred and angry curses. It stayed this way until the group’s leader returned from a long scouting mission.

Lykaios had a reassuring aura about him. His appearance was similar to Malik’s, but with lighter colors than his. His trench coat was grayish-dark bluish color. His pants were more of a grayish- blackish, and his boots were a light gray with silver guards on front. As for extras, he had two silver shoulder armor pieces that had straps running across his chest, making an X, and connecting with his belt. His straight, shoulder-length hair was a grayish-bluish. His eyes reflected the same color, and he had a smooth face. He had an older look on him though. He had his sleeves rolled up past his elbows like Malik normally has, but he was wearing no bracers. Instead, he wore only dark leather gloves that almost matched his coat. Upon Lykaios’ arrival in the camp, he was told about the prisoner the group had captured and how he had injured a number of their soldiers. He paid Malik a visit and tried to talk with him. The conversation started like the ones before, with the person asking questions of Malik and receiving no reply. But Lykaios told Malik that he was the leader of the band of rebels and that he was quite influential within their army. He asked for Malik’s concerns and received an explosion of emotion form the depths of his soul. He retold the terrible story of his lost village and the cremation of his mother, the journey he had taken into the mountains to escape, and, most of all, how alone he was now in the world. The soldiers in the camp thought that their great leader had finally broken the prisoner, but Lykaios saw it differently. He saw what no one else had seen: the terrible longing for family and friends that were dead and the fear of being alone. Much to the shock and dismay of everyone in the camp who had witnessed the skirmish between Malik and the soldiers of the camp, Lykaios accepted Malik into their group and treated him as his son.

It seemed that the rebel army only was aiming to get their voices heard by the royal family and the people of Cussono, not to take over. Their story was that of myth and nightmare. According to their group, a demon army had risen from nowhere and had begun a bloody march across the continent, killing anything and everything in their way. They had sent messengers ahead of them to the royal family as a warning, but they were ignored due to the fact that their story was so outrageous. So as they returned to their fleeing country to the west, they relayed the news. Without missing a step, they simply drew their weapons against everything they crossed paths with as well, and eventually made their way into Cussono. Apparently, they made peace with the king instead of completely destroying the city. The rest of the story, in short, was actually quite simple. They began to rebuild, and they sent Malik out to see if he could find out where the demons had stopped and why.

That brings Malik back to the present time, where he is making his way through the valley north of the main road that leads through the forest from Cussono to the western land on the other side. He started to think of what the elves had told him when he made his little detour north back to the Forgotten City to see what they knew of the demons. Their many legends of the ancient tribes still baffled Malik. The shape shifters, or the Veld as they are called, intrigued him the most. But he also read texts that told of a higher group, one of great strength, beauty, and intelligence: the angels. According to stories passed down by the elves, the angels once lived on the far west coast of Norvetta. This also happens to be the general area from which the demons first showed up.

Malik has now been traveling for many days. He has been making his way through the legendary foggy mountains that border the west coast. He was making his way up the tallest of the mountains he had come across, and was nearing the top. These mountains are endless. he thought to himself. The elves told me to make sure a make my way to the top of every large peak to see where I am, but the fog is too thick! As he arrived at the peak, he wasn’t prepared for what happened next. Ahead of the mountain, the fog cleared, and Malik was finally able to see his destination. But his destination was in flames. He was too late. “So it seems the war has destroyed another city…” he said quietly to himself. As he gazed at the destruction, a figure landed by a boulder near the spot Malik was now standing at. His good hearing caught it, and he turned with his sword drawn to face the unknown figure. As he looked closer, he realized that this person had large white wings growing out of its back. An angel. His heart began to pound as he noticed that the poor thing was covered in blood and very weak. He sheathed his sword as it looked to him with golden eyes. “What happened to you?” Malik asked the angel as he slowly approached.

“They…they…killed so many…” he breathed in jagged breathes. He stumbled and Malik rushed forward to catch him.

“What did this? Who was killed?” he asked fearfully. A chill had started to run down his spine when he saw all the blood, and now he didn’t like what was beginning to unfold.

“The demons! The demons…they came and attacked our people…” he replied, tears starting to form in his eyes. The scenario was going from bad to worse. The legend spoke of the demon army reeking havoc and destruction about the land. But when all hope seemed lost, the angels appeared and brought hope back to the land. They helped to fight back against the demons, and they ultimately finished them off and sealed them back in the fiery pits of hell from whence they came. Ever since then, their tribe has been recognized as a symbol of hope.

“What happened?” Malik quietly whispered to the angel as he held him in his arms.

“The demons attacked our city out of nowhere…We were able to kill the ones that had made it into the city and…we fought them back. We closed the gates…and we held out in the siege. It seemed like they were going to give up, but then…they received reinforcements that dwarfed the size of the original attack force. We only held out a couple days after that…I managed to escape…but I won’t…make it farther than this…”

“Yes you will! Don’t give up yet! Let me help you with your—”

“No! You have to carry my message to the elves…”

“The elves?”

“Tell them…the demons…have taken...Graceadonia..." he shuddered for a moment, looked deep into Malik’s eyes, and he fell limp. He was gone. Malik laid him gently on the ground and closed the angel’s eyes. He leaned over him and made a silent prayer.

“Be at peace my friend, I will deliver your message.” He stood up and walked back to his horse. He hopped up and looked to the burning city. “What happens now? Do we have any hope left?” he said quietly as his eyes began to gleam with tears. He turned his horse away and began the long journey home, all the while thinking of the angel who died in his arms and of the burning city. All hope seemed to be lost in the flames of the burning citadel of Graceadonia, as the angels fall first.

My Short Story

Another View

Many days had passed since this wolf was taken from his homeland. He had made his dangerous escape in the dead of night, and was now crossing an open field homeward bound when shots rang out. Why are the human’s firing at me?! he thought to himself as he sprinted. I’m not hunting their animals.

I have finally finished adjusting the little details of this page. =D Now that I'm done, I can focus on other issues...like getting enough money to buy some more music! =D

All done!

This 10 minute play was created for my creative writing class. Its the first draft, so tell me if there are any errors, or if you would like something changed.

10 Minute Play

Passing On

[The sound of swords crashing together fills the forest.]

SOLDIER 1
Keep fighting!

SOLDIER 2
We are being overwhelmed!

[Enters RANULF on stage with sword in hand.]

RANULF
Fight to the end!

[Fighting continues for a few more moments.]

[SOLDIER 1 is stabbed.]

SOLDIER 1
[falls to the ground]
Ugh…

SOLDIER 2
[striking ENEMY SOLDIER]
Ahhhh!!!!!!!!!!!

[Another ENEMY SOLDIER strikes down SOLDIER 2.]

SOLDIER 2
[falls to the ground]
O…

RANULF
[Looking around]
NO!!!!!!!!!!

[Rain began to fall through the trees.]

[RANULF begins backing away slowly, then bumps into a tree.]

RANULF
This looks like the end of me…

[Three ENEMY SOLDIERS corner RANULF to the tree]

RANULF
Then so be it…
[lunges at ENEMY SOLDIER in front of him]
[A brief exchange of blows and RANULF slays the first ENEMY SOLDIER.]

RANULF
[turning to his left]
Ya!

[RANULF takes a few steps engages the second ENEMY SOLDIER. ENEMY SOLDIER falls. As RANULF turns to last ENEMY SOLDIER, a sword is thrust through him.]

RANULF
[stops moving]
Damn…

[ENEMY SOLDIER pulls out sword and runs off stage.]

RANULF
[falling to his knees]
So that’s it?

[Struggling with pain]

What will happen…no…

[Falling to the ground]

[After a few moments of silence, DEATH enters]

DEATH
[Looking around at all the dead, he takes a deep breath.]
Ahhh…I just love the smell of new recruits!

[DEATH begins to stroll about the stage, admiring the dead with an occasional smile or chuckle.]

[After seeing everyone, he walks to the middle of the bodies and faces audience.]

DEATH
[With a strong voice]
Rise!

[After a few moments, all characters begin to wake up and get up. They begin to look around confused.]

DEATH
[Laughing to himself]
They are so funny when they first rise…

[All characters, excluding DEATH and RANULF, are now known as the DEAD SOLDIERS.]

[RANULF copies the DEAD SOLDIERS]

[DEATH continues to stand still in his middle spot]

DEAD SOLDIERS
[Wandering about imaginary circle around group]
What is going on?

DEATH
[Answering the questions]
Isn’t it obvious?

DEAD SOLDIERS
What happened to me?

DEATH
You haven’t noticed the big chunk of flesh missing from yourself?

DEAD SOLDIERS
Didn’t I die?

DEATH
Ya sure you bechya did!

DEAD SOLDIERS
Then what’s going to happen to me?

DEATH
[Excited at the question]
And THAT is the million dollar question! What will happen indeed?

[Everyone finally notices DEATH, and, each other. They are all startled by the new discovery.]

[RANULF stops and stares at DEATH.]

DEATH
[Amused to see he is noticed]
Hey! You have all come to your senses! That wasn’t a bad time either…

[DEATH pulls his sleeve up to see his watch.]

DEAD SOLDIERS
[Angered and frightened by DEATH’s presence.]
Who are you?!

DEATH
Me? Why, I thought it would be obvious by now!

[Everyone loses their tension and looks around at each other. RANULF included.]

DEAD SOLDIERS
Um…do you know who this guy is?
No…do you?
Who is this guy?
No idea…

RANULF
Yea who is he?

[DEATH’s happy smile fades away as they continue to confound themselves.]

DEATH
Idiots…

[DEATH stands there and waits a little longer to see if anyone gets his name, but sadly, no one cares…yet.]

[With a powerful voice.]

I AM DEATH!!!!!!!!

[Everyone is shocked back to previous personality, with much more fear.]

DEATH
I thought you would be a brighter bunch after your great awakening time, but, well, I was wrong…

DEAD SOLDIERS
[Fearfully]
Wh-what are y-you supposed t-t-to do?

DEATH
My job is to come find you all so you can kick the bucket! Timing is everything, and your time was up. I am–

DEAD SOLDIERS
[In a combination of frustration and fear.]
WHAT?!?!
WHY?!?!
What’s going to happen…
Why now?
Why me?

[RANULF finally turns away and looks to the side, trying to think over what has happened.]

[DEATH holds his right hand up in the air, and they eventually quiet down.]

DEATH

Frankly, I don’t know why you are angry with me. Your own decisions brought me to you. What did you expect to come from joining the local militia? Hm?

DEAD SOLDIERS
Well I hoped to—

DEATH
No I didn’t mean literally tell me! If you would all line up in single file, we could all get going faster.

[All the DEAD SOLDIERS slowly begin to form a line. RANULF, however, stayed where he was.]

DEATH
[Seeing RANULF off to the side]
Ah, Ranulf. Could you please come join the line?

RANULF
[Still turned away.]
What if I don’t want to go?

DEATH
I’m sorry? You are speaking very—

RANULF
[Now turning to DEATH]
I said what if I don’t want to go?!?!

DEATH
I am afraid you have no choice in the matter. You forfeited your life, and now you have no where else to go but with me. There aren’t any other—

RANULF
There has to be! I will not go with you! I can’t leave…

DEATH
[Putting his hand into his cloak and drawing a sword.]
Like I have said before, you have no choice in the matter. Comply with me, or I will send you to the other world by a more direct route.

[RANULF begins to look around for his sword, finds it, then picks it up. He takes his fighting stance.]

DEATH
[A smile coming across his face.]
You think you can fight me? You think you can defeat Death, Ranulf?

RANULF
I can fight you…

DEATH
Ha! Come try me boy!

[They both lunged at each other and exchanged blows. The others around them began to watch in awe.]

[They separated and began to circle one another.]

How long will you be able to last? Hm? A minute? Two? How far are you willing to go before you realize your cause is lost?

RANULF
My cause isn’t lost, it’s just—

DEATH
Impossible? Think for a second. How do you—

RANULF
I will fight this to the end! You here me?!

DEATH
Aren’t you already there? The end has come for you. Your fight is over.

RANULF
It’s not over. It can’t be. It won’t be. I can’t!

DEATH
What is it that you fear the most, young one? Do you fear being alone after you pass on? Or do you fear me? Is that it?

RANULF
I don’t fear you…

DEATH
Or do you fear us both?

RANULF
I said I don’t fear you.

DEATH
Really?

[DEATH lifted his blade and charged. The two of them locked blades.]

DEATH
I think you do. I see it in your eyes. Is it because you don’t know what will happen to you on the other side? Or is it that you can’t leave your loved ones behind?

[RANULF is fighting an inner battle with himself as DEATH’s words tear him open.]

RANULF
[Pushing away from DEATH.]
Damn you!!

[They circle.]
DEATH
Who is it you don’t want to let go? Your mother and father? You brothers and sisters? Your closest friends?

RANULF
[Lunges at DEATH.]
Ahhh!!!!

[DEATH parries the attack and kicks him to the ground. DEATH points his sword at RANULF on the ground in front of him.]

DEATH
Stop wishing false hopes upon yourself and let go. You can’t go back for them Ranulf. You are lost to them as they should be lost to you. Give up.
RANULF
[Watching the tip of DEATH’s sword as he slowly started to get up.]
I won’t…

DEATH
You still don’t get it do you? You can’t kill me. I am Death. You—

RANULF
I don’t give a rat’s ass who you are anymore!

[He finally gets up, and he readies himself.]

I will never give up hope!

[He lunges at DEATH. They lock swords.]

DEATH
But hope has given up on you. That life is gone. Stop blaming me for your actions and move on.

[They push at each other while their swords are locked. DEATH stares deep into RANULF’s eyes.]

RANULF
That’s what I plan on doing. I will run you down!!!

[RANULF pushes DEATH backwards, and before he regains balance, RANULF shoulders him to the ground. He then points his sword down at him.]

If I strike you down, you let me go back to my life.

[DEATH gets back on his feet, completely ignoring the sword.]

DEATH
And why should I do a thing like that? What do you have to offer me? Have no collateral to offer at all. A poor business proposition young one…If anything—

[They circle, eyeing each other down. A new light sparking in RANULF’s eyes.]

RANULF
I offer my blade. It is all I have to defend myself and I have no money to buy another. It will bring me back to you sooner.

[Tensions start to die down.]

DEATH
So tell me then, what business do you still have with the living?
RANULF
Leave me to my business. Do we have a deal?

DEATH
We do not need to cross our blades for this. Do not forget that you can’t hide from me anywhere, my friend. I won’t be far.

[RANULF nods to DEATH, and he tosses his sword into the ground.]

[The lights go out when the sword hits the ground. Change scenery.]

[Lights come on, and RANULF is alone at the back of the stage.]

[Enter FATHER at front of stage.]

[RANULF sees his FATHER.]

RANULF

Father!

FATHER

Ranulf? What brings you back here? You have grown into a fine young man!

RANULF

I needed to come back. I needed to say goodbye one last time…

FATHER

If you are worrying about not being able to see your family again, don’t. You are still young, and have much to live through.

[RANULF looks down feeling guilty.]

If it is your last time seeing everyone, you still don’t have to worry. We will all be together again in the other world. If this has been worrying you enough to come here, has something happened?

RANULF

[lightening up.]

No, just close encounters…

FATHER

So that’s what happened to your sword then? That explains things…

[RANULF is at a loss of word due to the fact that his FATHER knew what happened.]

Then you have nothing to fear at all. If death is already waiting for you, your life is complete and your soul is satisfied. Enjoy the rest of your days! I will keep this secret safe for you.

RANULF

[Almost brought to tears.]

Thank you…father…

[Exit]

[Enter NARRATOR.]

NARRATOR

[To the audience.]

Sensing his son’s distress, Ranulf’s father brought him back to their house, where they celebrated Ranulf’s surprise visit with a large feast, and a big party with the family. Ranulf was able to enjoy the company of his loved ones and some of his childhood friends. As the day came to an end, he watched the sun set for the last time, and was filled with many emotions. The next morning found Ranulf walking around the woods near his village.

[Enter RANULF at back stage.]

NARRATOR

What his family didn’t know was that the night before, Ranulf had made a prayer to DEATH. His fear still remained: he did not want to die alone. He wanted to have a friend with him, someone he could trust to help him.

[Enter DEATH front stage holding RANULF’s sword. NARRATOR move off to the side.]

[RANULF sees DEATH, he stops to take a deep breath. Then walks over to DEATH.]

[They make eye contact, and both give a friendly smile.]

DEATH

[Holding out RANULF’s sword.]

Are you ready?

RANULF

[Takes the sword.]

I’m ready.
